TRANSDNIESTRIA - TIRASPOL
The central square and its symbols Posters for the Refenrundum The Transdniestrian government... and a big statue

Just a few pictures from Tiraspol, the so-called capital of Transdniestria. Along the Dniestr river, this tiny strip of land between Ukraine and Moldova is a break away region of Moldova...
"After a short war in 1990-91 with Moldovan forces, Transdniestrian separatists broke away and declared independence. A ceasefire has held ever since, but the Council of Europe recognizes Transdniester as a "frozen conflict." Both Ukraine and Moldova suspect that the separatist regime of Igor Smirnov in Transdniester may be involved in arms and drug smuggling through the porous border with Ukraine" this is extract from an article of Radio Free Europe.
The region is supported by Russia - not officially, of course!
What else?
Sometimes, sure, I felt like being back to the CCCP... Exotic! But I also met kind people who made me think (once more) that this "country" is not simply this picture usually drawn by the Western media!
